Numbing solution is given to help alleviate pain. Also depending on your pain threshold analgesics are prescribed after the procedure. Usually it feels like discomfort. Generally areas treated with liposuction are tender to pressure but there is no extricating pain. There may be feeling of stiffness when moving about but mostly it subsides after few days.
Fat is removed from the subcutaneous layer which is below the skin but above the muscles. All the important organs are situated much below the muscle and are therefore safe.
Blood tests, photographs, markings, things and medications to take will be discussed. A compression garment measurement will be taken which is to be worn after the surgery.
At one time number of areas can be treated. Generally it is advisable to remove around maximum of five litres of fat in one sitting. If more fat needs to be aspirated it is recommended to get in two sittings scheduled atleast 6 months apart.
A tight strapped elastic tape will be applied to put pressure on areas where fat has been sucked. Depending on the requirements evaluated during the surgery, drains might be placed which are removed in a day or two. By evening or next morning, you will wear your customized compression garment.
It is an elastic garment which is customized and provides support to the skin so that it redrapes well. It also helps in reducing swelling and minimizing bruising so that skin evens out and sets well.
It is advisable to wear it for 6 weeks. You can remove it to shower and can wear it under your normal garments.
Usually it feels like discomfort but depending on your pain threshold analgesics will be prescribed. Generally areas treated with liposuction are tender to pressure but there is no extruciating pain. There may be feeling of stiffness when moving about but mostly it subsides after few days.
Immediately after the surgery, you will get good idea of regions which have been liposculpted. By the end of one month as the swelling subsides, skin sets out but you should wait for six months to fully appreciate the results.
The effects of liposuction are permanent. The fat cells are removed from the particular areas and the remaining fat cells do not multiply to take their place.
At one sitting of liposuction number of areas can be treated. Generally it is advisable to remove around maximum of six to seven liters of fat in one sitting. If more fat needs to be aspirated it is recommended to get in two sittings scheduled at least 6 months apart.
After the surgery, there will be bruising and areas where liposuction has been done might turn purple. There can be swelling of pubic region, lower legs as the fluid seeps down. It usually resolves after a week but it can take upto 6 weeks for all the swelling to go.
Once the surgery has been done to sculpt the body, the proportion remains the same even if there is weight gain subsequently. If you do gain weight you will gain it uniformly and not just areas where fat has been removed. It is advisable to follow a good and active lifestyle so that you can maintain the results.
