Plastic Surgery During Covid Times:The rising trend
The ‘New Normal’
Coronavirus or Covid 19 has changed the way we work and live. The global pandemic has made socializing impossible as social distancing and masks are the new norm. Most of the people who can work from home are on the Zoom meetings/webinars or video chats.
As people adapt to the ‘New Normal’, the beauty routines — including cosmetic procedures — can add that feel good factor that people desire both at personal and professional levels. Even though there is uncertainty in these times, people see it as a mood elevator and a good time to get procedures done because of work from home schedules. The increase in tele consultations during the times of lockdown is a testament to the fact that public sees it as an opportunity to get a procedure done. Let’s see why that’s the case. Suppose a person had got a lip filler done before the Covid era, the bruising and swelling would have restricted her social interactions for some time. But in the era of masks and less social interaction she can easily go for it without being noticed.
Similarly there has been closure of gymnasiums and parks which has catapulted people towards getting liposuction done during Covid times. Another reason is that they don’t have to take days off work as you can resume your computer duties/desk job the next day without any tell – tale signs of cosmetic surgery
‘Worldwide trend’
The American Society of Plastic Surgery has listed high demands of breast augmentation and liposuction in the surgical treatments with Botox (Anti- wrinkle injections) and fillers leading the none-surgical pack.
Dr. Rod Rohrich, one of the most famous plastic surgeons in the world based in USA in an interview to BBC pointed towards increasing number of plastic surgery being done.
“They can actually recover at home and also they can have a mask that they wear when they go outside after a rhinoplasty or facelift. People want to resume their normal lives and part of that is looking as good as they feel.”
The trend resonates in the cosmetic surgery capital of the world that is South Korea which are reported in increase in number of cosmetic surgery.
