When can I take a flight after Liposuction Surgery?

As one of the most common questions asked by our patients traveling from across India and around the world for liposuction surgery, the timing of when it’s safe to fly after the procedure is a critical consideration. Several key factors come into play, and it’s essential to carefully evaluate each one to ensure a safe and comfortable journey home.

The extent and areas of liposuction performed are a primary concern. Larger treatment areas or more extensive procedures may require a longer recovery period before flying. Your general health, age, and any previous illnesses or blood clotting issues must also be taken into account. The duration of your flight is another important factor – longer flights pose a higher risk of complications.

It’s also vital to have an accompanying person travel with you, as they can provide assistance and monitor for any issues that may arise. Our experienced medical team will work closely with you to determine the optimal timing for your return flight, prioritizing your safety and wellbeing above all else.

By carefully considering these key factors, we can help ensure a smooth and comfortable journey home after your liposuction surgery. Trust the expertise of our team to guide you through this process and provide the personalized care you deserve.

Key factors that need to be considered while flying back to home after Liposuction are:

1. Extent and areas of Liposuction
2. General Health
3. Flight duration
4. Age
5. Any previous illness
6. Any history of blood clotting (DVT) or taking medications which can cause blood clotting.
7. Presence of accompanying person

Ideal time to travel after Liposuction

  • Gynecomastia- Can travel next day if home is in India and after 2 days if outside India
  • Double Chin Liposuction- Can travel next day if home is in India and next day if travel outside India.
  • Arm Liposuction- Can travel next day if home is in India and after 2-3 days if outside India
  • Thigh Liposuction- Can travel next day if home is in India and after 5-6 days if outside India
  • Tummy Liposuction- Can travel after 3-4 days if home is in India and after 6-7 days if outside India
  • 360 Liposuction- Can travel after 5-6 days if home is in India and after 7-10 days if outside India

Important: The biggest danger is DVT, however it is generally accepted that as long as patients can walk around the plane comfortably and their recovery is going well, they can fly after 24 to 48 hours. That being said, it is recommended to avoid long haul flights that increase the risk of complications and in general we would recommend patients leave it 4-5 days. Also use compression stockings while travelling. In some cases you might be prescribed blood thinners for some days.
