Tummy tuck or Abdominoplasty is a procedure to contour abdomen. It involves removal of excess skin above and below belly button (full tummy tuck) or below belly button (mini tummy tuck). Depending on the extent of removal, it involves a scar which is well hidden under bikini line.

Dr. Chugh in his endeavor to achieve great results also does liposculpting which is the art of sculpting abdomen and flanks by use of liposuction. It also involves repair of weak abdominal muscles or hernia if any.

Yes, it can be combined with breast lift/ breast implants which constitutes full mommy makeover.

No, it is for both men and women.

Tummy tuck creates a contoured abdomen with trimmed waistline. It makes you feel confident about yourself not only in swimwear but in all types of clothing. Post pregnancy stretch marks are also removed along with any C- section scar. It also adds to strengthening and stability of abdominal region.

It is done under general anaesthesia and usually takes around 4 hours. An overnight stay at hospital is recommended.

For the first 24 hours IV fluids and antibiotics will be given. Next day after visit by Dr. Chugh you will be discharged on five days course of antibiotics and other medications which are to be taken orally. A compression garment will be worn after removal of first dressing the day after surgery. In some cases, drains might be placed which are removed in a day or two.

A compression garment is an elastic garment that is to be worn after surgery for 6 weeks day and night. It helps in reducing swelling, bruising and helps in contouring.

Pain threshold is variable but analgesics will be prescribed which will take care of the pain. Also it is important to mobilise after surgery and it is normal to walk with a hunch back for few days.

Generally by the end of first week it starts subsiding considerably.

It is recommended that you take atleast two weeks off from work to ensure good recovery. It is advisable that you don’t engage in sports and exercise for four to six weeks and heavy lifting, situps for 10 weeks. At all time you should wear compression garment. You should not drive for two weeks after surgery.

Abdominoplasty/ Tummy tuck has a high success rate, but can have minor common problems during the healing process. These include numbness, bleeding, seroma, scarring, palpable sutures, infection, skin necrosis, dehiscence of wound.

Scar is an inevitable part of tummy tuck which involves tightening of skin and abdominal muscles of abdomen and reduction of fat. Scar runs from hip bone to hip bone, but it’s very low on your belly  just above the pubic region and easily concealed by underwear.

Immediately after the surgery, results can be appreciated but swelling subsides by 3-4 months and final results will be visible by 6 months.

Abdominoplasty should only be done when your weight is stable. To maintain long term results it is important that you follow a good diet and exercise regime.

It is best to complete family before planning surgery as pregnancy will stretch your abdomen again.
